ASPHALT AS BASE. CONTEXTS (2017)
Created in Odesa after the artist’s return from three years of living in India, the series emerged during a period of complex re-adaptation — a time of searching for new meanings, anchors, and ways of re-negotiating one’s relationship with surrounding reality. The project consists of 11 photo collages, where the image functions not as documentation but as a field for reconstructing inner experience.

Through collage logic, the works assemble fragments of visual reality, transforming urban surfaces and traces of everyday life into a metaphorical ground of existence — “asphalt” as a point of contact between body, memory, and environment. The series approaches return not as closure, but as a new phase of instability, where personal history is reassembled through visual layering.

The work marks an early stage of Semenkova’s artistic methodology, where photography operates not as fixation, but as a process of thinking through images — a way of working with memory, transformation, and states of transition.
