Life Reflected: Video After Returning from Home Town ODESA UKRAINE

For the last three and a half years, Ukrainian artist Maryna Semenkova has been living in exile in Germany because of the war. This summer, during her only possible three-week vacation, she once again returned home to Odesa — a city whose port is constantly under shelling.

Despite the danger, daily life continues: people shop at the market, take children to kindergarten, enjoy the sea, and at night hurry home before the curfew to wait out attacks in shelters. Locals sum it up with a phrase: “By day we have Monaco, and at night — Afghanistan.”

Maryna’s new video captures this contrast. The footage was shot in daylight on the roof of a seaside building, where the wind plays with her hair, while the soundtrack was recorded at night in her bedroom during another round of shelling.
